Why Rabat
Rabat is Morocco's political capital and one of its most relaxed cities — and the easiest possible first move from a Casablanca arrival, just under an hour away by frequent train. A UNESCO-listed blend of Almohad ramparts, French-era avenues and Atlantic light, it makes a serene counterpoint to Casablanca's bustle, so many guests pair the two in a single day or use Rabat as a gentle first or last night. The blue-and-white kasbah of the Udayas sits above the Bou Regreg river mouth; the unfinished Hassan Tower and the marble Mausoleum of Mohammed V anchor the skyline; and the medina is gentle, walkable and refreshingly hassle-free.
What to see
A 12th-century fortified quarter of blue-washed lanes above the river, with an Andalusian garden and café overlooking the Atlantic.
The minaret of a mosque never finished, facing the exquisitely decorated royal mausoleum guarded by mounted sentries.
Roman and Merinid ruins reclaimed by storks and gardens — one of the most atmospheric sites in the country.
A low-key medina for carpets and crafts, plus the art-deco and modernist avenues of the French protectorate.

Very much so — it's under an hour away by train, making it the most convenient escape from your Casablanca gateway. Its UNESCO monuments, the kasbah of the Udayas and the Chellah ruins make a rewarding day, and it's far calmer than Marrakech or Fes.
Yes — the short train link makes a comfortable day trip easy: kasbah of the Udayas, the Hassan Tower and mausoleum, the Chellah and a medina wander, and back to Casablanca by evening. An overnight lets you enjoy the riverfront and beaches at a slower pace.
