Overview
A half-day walking tour of Casablanca's 1920s–30s downtown: Art-Deco and Mauresque facades, Place Mohammed V, the old cathedral and the central market.
Casablanca grew up in the French Protectorate years into a showcase of Art-Deco and Mauresque architecture — a downtown of curved balconies, wrought-iron grilles and carved plasterwork unlike anywhere else in Morocco. Most visitors miss it entirely on the dash to the mosque.
On foot with a city historian you'll trace Boulevard Mohammed V and the grand administrative square Place Mohammed V, see the abandoned Cathédrale du Sacré-Cœur, the restored Cinéma Rialto, the central market and the Villa des Arts. It is a relaxed two-and-a-half-hour walk with coffee stops, ending near the old medina.
